Thank you! I also tried manually editing the /etc/version.txt file. I changed the version number to 428976, which is equivalent to the number of the first firmware my Kindle model received, according to this Amazon page:

I forced the update without unplugging the Kindle from the PC. It starts to update/downgrade, but suddenly stops and displays an error 12. I also tried AllowDowngrade.sh, edited the file to the number 428976, but got the same error 12. Also, I tried taking a chance without editing the AllowDowngrade file, and again got error 12.
