Surely Kobo know exactly how their bread is buttered.
I shouldn't imagine they have quite the nonchalance of Amazon or flexibility.
A lot of Kobo customers would be disgruntled Amazon Kindle ones.
They wouldn't want those to think they are better off going back to Amazon.
I think their price matching policy says it all.
I'd certainly go back to buying my ebooks at Amazon if I had to, so long as DRM could still be removed. Failing that, I'd probably mostly give up on buying ebooks altogether ... exceptions would be Smashwords, BookFunnel etc and direct from an author.
In any case I have more than enough physical books and ebooks to tide me over for my remaining lifetime. So I'd just stop buying and wait things out.
I've got a huge Project Gutenberg resource, which I started collecting long before I got an acceptable ereader device.
