If you don’t need the very latest UI and your PW4 is still on 5.12.4 I would suggest to update it to 5.16.2.1.1, which is the last non-hardfloat version. Then you can apply WinterBreak, and by installing “rename OTA bins” as per the instructions, you’ll be able to stay on that firmware. You’ll then avoid all the HF-related issues.
Otherwise if you need the UI and features from the latest versions, then you can update to any firmware up to 5.17.1.0.3 and apply WinterBreak. Once the jailbreak is properly installed you can then update to 5.18.1 if you wish, and install “rename OTA bins” as it’s not guaranteed the jailbreak will survive future updates.
