In general I agree with you but some genre's (at least LitRPG) seem to primarily be self published through KDP Select and put on KU which means they end up being Amazon exclusive. Sometimes they get a physical release but I have read a lot of series that have not, it is a shame to have to stop reading a large portion of a genre by avoiding Amazon. Also if you have started a series that is exclusive it would be unfortunate to have to drop it, but I would consider these to be edge cases and not the norm so for most people I don't think it would be an issue.

For LitRPG a lot of them at least are web serials so you can sometimes read the latest chapters on a platform such as RoyalRoad but the chapters get taken down for KU when published so if you are not caught up then there isn't much you can do.
