As a child, I re-read a TON, simply by virtue of a) being a fast reader and b) my parents weren't willing to subsidize my habit by buying me a constant stream of new books. My grandmother did indulge me some, mainly, I suspect, because she knew when she had me to visit her, that if she handed me a new book, she didn't have to worry about keeping me out of trouble.

As an adult out of college and on my own, my income went mostly towards food and rent, so again, I re-read frequently of my own paperback stash. And also utilized my local library extensively.

As a senior citizen, I'm pretty busy keeping house, making myself nutritious meals, so I re-read a bit less frequently, leaning more towards experiencing new books. But I still do it.

What I re-read varies widely. Last spring, I indulged in Dune, the entire freaking universe (yep, including the son's work with Kevin J. Anderson). I had previously read most of these, but there were a number of new ones and I decided to just go for the whole thing.

Same for the Mrs. Pollifax series. I finally, bit by bit, accumulated them as ebook, including the last few books that I had NOT read previously, and did the whole series in one delightful go.

Early last summer, I had a re-read of a Charles Dickens favorite, David Copperfield. I used to read it every year, but got to where I knew it too well, and hadn't done so for a while.

More recently, hubby had an itch to re-read The Hunger Games series, and I joined him. Just finished Sunrise on the Reaping this morning.

I re-read Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer not long ago. So what I re-read varies quite a bit. It could be a single title that I just want to revisit, or a whole series. It might be non-fiction, it might be fiction. It might be fluff or a classic. No rhyme or reason, just whatever my brain feels into between library books.

It's like some books are old friends and I just go visit from time to time.
