Hmm, I'm thinking it still could be the battery and that the updating of the battery stats is not quick enough for you to see that it's dying.
I'd be running this on my battery eliminator/power monitor to see what's going on.
If you had a bench supply or another battery you could check this.
Don't blow anything up.
