The Realm of False Gods series by Steve Higgs? "A Wizard in (or Battle for) Bremen" is used in several of the subtitles.

I'm not familiar with it at all, but the blurb includes phrases like:

... wizard detective, Otto Schneider ...
... underground cell ...
... recruit a snarky werewolf ...
... invade the demon realm and rescue a little girl ...
