Last night I was down in the basement using the gym and I noticed a puddle of water on the floor near the washing machine. Maybe 10 years ago the laundry drain clogged and, after I unclogged it, I tied a rag around the drain pipe. Sure enough, the rag was soaked -- so, at least it wasn't a problem with the washing machine. Just a clogged drain overflowing.
I got my big adjustable wrench and removed the clean-out plug with great difficulty (the plumbers' putty had hardened around the threads), and got my old drain snake. I reamed it out pretty well (I thought) but when I ran a test with the empty washing machine, water splashed out of the drain pipe and onto the floor. Hopefully, I just need to open it back up and snake it through a few more times.
Just like my Dad before me, I hate plumbing jobs.
And suddenly my Wednesday is all booked up.
