PLEASE HELP -- cannot convert KFX any longer

Well, I was aware Amazon killed the D&T choices but I had also read if you had an e-ink Kindle you could get around it. So, I let things slide until I have more than 30 books I bought and paid for and figured i should back them up already.

Failed. I have tried with my Paperwhite 1st gen, Oasis 1st gen and a newer PWSig. I thought all that was needed was to have such an e-ink kindle and to transfer the kfx file via usb cable then add it to Calibre Then Calibre would convert the kfx to epub or whatever you needed.

Fails. I get a file in my Calibre library that says it is a KFX-ZIP file. But when i try to convert it, Calibre gives me a DRM protected error. I am using a Calibre 7.26 with the latest DeDRM and KFX plugins.

The reason I back up my books is not to share them but I have a number of other brand ereaders too. Can I please get some help here as to what I could be doing wrong? Thanks.
