I have kindles disconnected from wi-fi for perhaps a couple months at a time. Mostly because I have several and sometimes just don't use one for a couple months. I've never had anything deleted despite having lots of... shall we say "liberated" ebooks. I use Send to Kindle after I liberate the books, sending an ePub. Everything works great - covers, syncing of furthest page read across devices, etc. I did used to sideload from Calibre, but now that covers, typeset options (bold levels, etc.) and syncing all work now, with Send to Kindle, that's what I do. I've never had books removed from my devices when I reconnect to wi-fi. So maybe Send to Kindle is a solution?
