If you extracted the zip file and copied over the whole extracted structure onto the root of your Kindle I’m not sure why it wouldn’t work. You can perhaps try to install KOL; it will add an icon to your library to launch KOReader directly without going through KUAL. You can make it prettier with the coversetter extension.
