I had the impression that murderbot/SecUnit was female also. As are most of the characters in the first three novels, even if they have male sounding names and described to give the impression they are male, they then turn out to be female. I guess that is intentional by the author? eg you wouldn't immediately think that Don, Gerth and Wilken are female names- but who knows what the future will be like.
Just reading chapter 5 of
Rogue Protocol it is confirmed that SecUnit is female...
