I recently had to finally replace my beloved Galaxy S10e. It had long since stopped receiving OS updates or security updates, but it still ran just fine. Unfortunately, the battery was clearly starting to swell on it, as I could see gaps developing in the casing. I ended up buying an S24, because it was mostly the same dimensions, and as much as I hate to be tied to an ecosystem, I'm pretty much all-in on Samsung at this point (I have a phone, a tablet, a watch, and earbuds--all of which play very nicely with each other and not much else). The S24 came out the logical conclusion simply because I won't have to upgrade it for another six years, if Samsung's word is to be believed.

But other than the fact that the S24 is faster, it feels like a regression in so many ways. It loses the headphone jack. It loses the SD slot. The fingerprint sensor moved from a hardware scanner that was built into the power button to an under-screen scanner that feels way less accurate. It loses the Bixby button (which, admittedly, I rarely used, but as a remapped camera button it wasn't bad). All in exchange for a slightly faster processor, and some AI crap that I don't use.

There's a part of me that wonders if I should have just paid a guy at a mall kiosk to put in a new battery, and then tried to load LineageOS onto it. Oh well.
