18 short stories, 2 of them fairly long, in the Life + 70 years public domain, collected from newspapers, magazines and other sources. Sydney Horler appears for the first time in this series; he was a popular thriller writer in the style of Edgar Wallace, Sapper and the like who flourished between the wars and a little into the postwar era, and who died in 1954. There is a longish story by H Bedford-Jones, giving a dramatised account of the historic Monitor vs Merrimac battle of two ironclad steamers during the US Civil War. Plus stories by some other familiar names.
