A device in EDL mode should show up with an adb devices command, is that correct?
I understand this EDL boot method doesn't have a useful bootloader, so I'll keep trying button combos to try and get to recovery.

If your device is bricked and you cannot access the recovery menu through the power button, you can enter EDL (Engineering Debug Loader) mode. To do this, hold the power button until the LED goes off for about 0.5 seconds and then lights up again. Your device is now in EDL mode. However, note that there might not be a loader available to perform useful actions in this mode.
