When it comes to music genres (and genres in general) what I dislike is when they don't actually describe anything about the music itself. An example is "Soundtrack" which only indicates that the song was used in a movie. By that logic, all of the following songs are in the "Soundtrack" genre:
  • "Twist & Shout" by The Beatles (featured in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off")
  • "Highway Patrol" by Junior Brown (featured in the movie "Me, Myself, and Irene")
  • "Only Solutions" by Journey (featured in the movie "TRON")
  • "Why Can't I Touch It" by The Buzzcocks (featured in the movie "The Party Animal")
It similar with genres like "Showtunes" and "Classical" (as an umbrella term for all classical music rather than a specific era).
