Not at all. I buy my books from many places, including Amazon and Kobo, but not only them. And I read them all on my Kobo eink readers.
Even if you don't want to mess with removing the DRM, you can read most ebooks in the epub format on your Kobo, no matter where you bought them. They must be either DRM-free or use Adobe DRM, which Kobo readers support.
As to your questions:
1) Frankly, no idea. Anyway, that's what calibre and the deDRM plugin are for. I have all my purchased ebooks backed up in several different places. So I don't much care what the stores I bought them from might do.
2-3) Sorry, again no idea. I don't subscribe to ads/recommendations and I don't listen to audiobooks
4) Kobo has a thing called price matching. If you let Kobo know the book you're interested in is sold cheaper elsewhere, they'll match the price.
