I'm not sure what mangled titles and unknown authors you are seeing? Or how you imported? I did 1463 books as a test and mine came in as standard titles and authors. I mean, amazon usually adds the series name in with the title as in: title (series). But otherwise mine are all good (no metadata editing done so far).

As for the b&w covers...that is normal. When Amazon sends a book to an eink kindle that only does b/w, they "optimize" the book for the device. Which means they change anything with color, whether it is the cover or illustrations inside, to b/w.

This is different from how things were with azw3 which always got color no matter the device.
