KFX input plugin has a "From KFX" menu option that does a similar thing and transforms the KFX into an EPUB without going through the Calibre conversion pipeline. It's basically what you're asking for.

Granted, it's not as "clean" as transcoding from KF8 which is basically just a container change, but as "clean" as you can get taking into account how KFX works.
