So everything may depend, at some point in the future, on the ability (or inability) of a few gifted and dedicated persons to maintain the de-DRMing (or, to be precise, de-KFXing, although de-DRMing from other sources than Amazon may also become an issue) Calibre plug-in, that has already survived at least one Kindle for PC upgrade.
Being willing to trust individual resilience and cleverness more than BigTech's greed and associated tyranny or the lawmakers' readiness to follow the large publishing and retail firms' whims rather than what the people want (or, unfortunately, in most cases, don't bother about because they're already too lobotomized to understand what's being done to them as long as they can connect their brains to some "authorized" source of data - goes for streaming movies too... -), I remain hopeful...
