I don't object to DRM on loans/borrows/rental. I object to the removal of DRM on them (and most ebook loans outside of Amazon still use ADE rather than LCP).
I just meant that DRM isn't absolutely needed for Amazon's KU tracking to work. It just has to be the KU file delivered as Amazon intended. Amazon seems to have no difficulty deleting files on Kindles.
However record, CD, VHS, DVD etc libraries & rental existed and neither VHS anti-copy nor DVD DRM has ever been effective and most people didn't copy the content.
And indeed ebook & audio book rental DRM and streaming DRM is no barrier at all to commercial pirates, and not much to ordinary consumers.
