In the end art is subjective and Whelan is a very talented artist for sure. When I pick my own covers for old sci-fi and fantasy, a Whelan cover is usually a winner.

But these are portraits of a character with certain properties. And for a gaunt, sickly man reliant on a vampiric sword, Gould wins for me.
