That's odd, based on a quick look at the code it looks like the "DateLastRead" column for the book is empty in the Kobo database. I'm not sure how this can happen in a way that makes the code proceed to that point.
Could you please generate a debug log by clicking on the "Help" link in the top right of the Kobo Utilities options dialog and following the instructions at the end of the document?
