I can read Scribe for short periods on my back holding with both hands. Otherwise sitting up and having it rest on my lap or surface is what I do.

Nothing to do with "training myself." I have terrible vision and have worn glasses since I was 6 years old, my prescription is about 20/700. But...I can see up close. So it's a pleasure for me to lay on my side, sans glasses, hold the Paperwhite about 7-8" from my face, and read away. I can also use my iPad mini this way. I'm turning 66 in 2 days...I've read this way in bed for many years.
