Minor nit: The Scribe, ColorSoft, Kindle 11th gen 2024 and Paperwhite 12th gen are the only Kindles that will use an MTP connection. A Paperwhite 11th gen on 5.17.1.0.3 still mounts as a USBMS device.
The 11th gen 5.27.1.04 suggests a Kindle 11th Gen 2024 release which should be visible over MTP. Depending on what OS the computer is, they may have to play with MTP drivers or enabling or disabling auto-mount.
A 2024 Paperwhite 5.17.1.0.4 plugged into my Windows 11 computer does mount a file system, just not as much of the file system as the USBMS devices.
The usual suggestions trying different USB cables, ports and/or computers come to mind.
