Sorry for spooking you even more, but your current battery is on the verge of becoming a spicy pillow (it will swell). This in turn might damage the screen or make itself catch fire.
So it is highly recommended to take it out and recycle at a local recycling point. I know many outlets accept batteries for recycling (like Staples in the US).
