MJ, yes, these books are mind-blowing. In my opinion (and many many others including the Hugo awards),
A Fire Upon the Deep is one of the best hard scifi book ever written. The prequel
A Deepness in the Sky is also a masterpiece, yet pales in comparison to the first book.
