It is also possible that the Manufactures might go with proprietary batteries. Sony tried that with a stick-shaped battery, and so did Philips with their DCC portable (however the battery pack looked like four AA batteries packaged together with a proprietary connector). Both didn't go very far.

That may not be allowed to go with a battery that's not easily available.
I can see customers being pissed if say the new model iPhone had a smaller capacity battery. That (IMHO) won't fly.
