You are unlikely to get a faster device or better battery life by updating the firmware.

I have an Oasis 2 running 5.9.6 and an Oasis 3 running 5.12.4 and I wish that 5.9.6 would run on the Oasis 3, but it won't. I also have a Voyage running 5.8.11 and a PW3 running 5.9.6 and don't plan to update either one.

New firmware add new features, new misfeatures, fixes some bugs and has new bugs. For the most part I want to avoid the misfeatures and new bugs.
