Not only do you get a price match:
- You also get 10% of the cheaper seller's price
- You can buy through Rakuten Kobo or other kickback sites and get a small percentage back
- Kobo has recurring gift card sales with a bonus which amounts to a significant savings if used for your own purchases. The current gc card sale of a $10 bonus on a $60 purchase amounts to a 14% discount and it applies to everything including Big Five books.
In fact, if they both sell the book, Kobo is always cheaper as a result.
I resisted price-matching for years as it didn't seem worth the bother and I was store-agnostic. But I stopped buying Kindle books in 2023 when they nerfed their bonus program and it's a trivial process. And given that the books are cheaper as a result....
I understand that some people direct download (I do). I also know that there are books only sold at Amazon. But the saving-money aspect now that books will be tied to a Kindle device or app is a nice come-on to jump ship.
