I switch between portrait and landscape all the time with MRSE.
I also wish there was a gear!
"Settings" appears in the upper left corner of the Library screen--it's three horizontal dots within a circle. One item there takes you to open Settings > Apps > MapleRead, which has many more options than typical apps.
One is "reset settings." That could fix a "stuck in landscape" state, although before that do restart your iPad, which has fixed many a glitch in my decade reading on the iPad mini.
