I take it you have never visited Japan? Common for walk signals to play a tune called Tōryanse which is used by Japanese children for a version of London Bridge Is Falling Down. The child under arch when the music stops is caught. By extension, as long as the music plays, it's safe to cross the street.

Oddly my Samsung washer also plays a tune as the end of cycle but it does have WiFi. So far it's only been used for firmware updates. No special cycles or anything.
