kindle I associate with kindling = fire = presumably to try and herald the 'death' of paper as a medium for books ...

alternatively
a) someone set fire to something in a brainstorming session at Amazon.
b) kindle is an acronym for Keen Intuitively Neat Device (for) Library Electronic/électronique
