Sigh. I realize that tools like NickelMenu, CoolReader, Plato, koReader exist. The point I'm trying to make is that (for instance) on the Android eco system there are many MANY eReading applications; the majority of which play very loosely with the full ePub specification, even for epub 2. And these are in some cases, commercial, PAID for applications.
Yes; there are projects like Readium / Thorium which are open-source, and could in theory be ported.
