That sounds like the Kobo compatibility is something that Bookshop is doing itself, so likely they are adding ADE as an option for reading.

Kindle compatibility is instead stated as something that Amazon need to be involved with, so perhaps they are trying to get it to work like Libby books do in the US where the Kindle platform does all of the work.
