But I usually don't download and keep many books offline, on my device. Most of them are stored in the Library, and when I need them, I download them, read them and remove them from my device (still in the library).

I could use Dropbox or Google Drive for my books with Kobos, but I don't. I sideload everything via USB. The major reason for this is the automatic metadata (including series) and collection management with Calibre - I don't have to sort anything on my Kobos manually, I connect to Calibre and everything will be sorted automatically. I would lose that with cloud downloading.
