You can flash partitions with EDL or using the "dd" command in a custom recovery with a rooted ADB.
I have some work done on a custom recovery for Leaf2. I forget where I left this. I'm trying to get more systematic at generating custom recoveries, especially for devices that I don't own. Custom recoveries can be useful for flashing full updates, including from Chinese to international "ROMs". Incremental updates are very complicated and I've always run into bugs.
