I’ve been detailing this problem on the firmware thread. I didn’t notice this happening until the latest update. A few of us have run into this, however. You’re not alone.

After extensive testing, I blame the sleep cover. I honestly believe something was changed in the firmware to make this a problem, but I have no evidence for that beyond anecdotal. But with the sleep cover on—and even with the sleep cover feature turned off—my books opened anywhere from pages to chapters away from my last page read—in either direction.

My solution has been to always exit the book to the Home Screen before closing the sleep cover. The problem seems to only happen when a book is active when the cover is closed. I’ve even had my KLC finish a book on me while the Kobo sat on a table untouched & unused. It’s definitely a weird bug, but I’ve been too busy with a death in the family and weeks of sickness to spend time complaining about it to Kobo. Maybe this week.
