We got about 4 inches of dry, powdery snow on Sunday, which was on the low side of the forecast. We got a thin glaze of ice underneath, so it was a bit more treacherous than you would have expected.
Today's high temperature was 25°F. We had sun and clouds all day, but the sun is still too low to do very much. In a few weeks the sun will be warm enough that if I just scrape the snow down to the pavement on the driveway it will take care of the rest, and any glare ice underneath. But tonight it's still icy. Sunset was at 5:03 EST, so that's a positive sign.
Tomorrow's high is expected to be 21° with wind chills near the single digits. We're not expected to get above freezing until Sunday, and nighttime lows will be near 0°F, so the snow that's on the ground won't be leaving, and the wind will be blowing it back into the streets -- meaning more ice.
But, it won't last long.
