I wonder how much time children spend in front of the tv, computer or in the car going to organised activities?
My little brother (6yrs as of today) spends more time in front of the TV then we did when we were his age - but he he has whatever imagination is needed
He really loves masquerading as s/o else, and plays for hours with Lego/Duplo/cars/a wooden fortress and knights we've built for him.
Maybe children just need s/o to regularly play with them to discover how nice it can be
