Off-topic:

I once found a blank check in a phone booth. It had been 'X'd through in bold, stark strokes, as if struck though in anger or dismissal. That check must have had an interesting story.

Sometimes, I wonder what happened to that phone booth. (And to the thousands of other phone booths throughout the country over the intervening years. I'm convinced there must be lost and abandoned graveyards full of them.) If only Cornell Woolrich or David Goodis could speak, I'm sure they could tell me.

This would be a great beginning for a short story.

(Only yesterday when cleaning the computer room, I tore up and then threw away a couple of hundred blank checks. There's no longer any need for such antiquated nonsense.)
