Did you try dowloading the kindlehf (hard float) version? You can grab Marek's version from https://fw.notmarek.com/khf/koreader/? This version has an odd extension of .targz. On Windows, I used 7-Zip to open it (right-click, 7-Zip => Open archive), otherwise rename it to .tar.gz to allow it be opened. I'm not sure if the version from the KOReader nightlies will work.
