I was able to make it slightly
bigger more visible by removing some padding and scaling the inner arrow but I think you found something there.
I can't apply the override in resources, any changes either to external-link-for-dark-theme.png or external-link.png aren't reflected in the GUI.
edit: there is currently no way to make it bigger.
