What if you use something like the one attached? I've corrected the one posted above (hiragana), according to the format of many others, including non latin ones, found in
/ebrmain/language/keyboard/. That is, no blank lines, a first nonspaced block with upper and lowercase romaji, -- separators, and two blocks of spaced characters,
terminated by -- on the last line.
By the way looking on other keyboards I think you can make virtual keys wider by adding :n after them, like e.g.
