Larry Niven, Poul Anderson Harry Turtledove
Hard Sci Fi nobody's gets near Larry Niven. (He also wrote an updated "Inferno" by Dante and made it about a Sci Fi writer finding himself in Hell - and it's wonderful. But the Known Space series is exceptional with the best aliens in any books The Kzin, the fantastic Pierson's Puppeteers, and the stories are just fantastic and Ive read them again and again. The Ringworld Quartet especially. "World Of Ptaavs" superb, and "Protector" another example of Nivens fantastic inventive mind when it comes to aliens.
Poul Anderson, historical and time travel, always good
Harry Turtledove - Alternate timelines. What would happen if Aliens invaded Earth during WW2 ? You'll race through this 8 book series. They should make it a TV series. And his take of Roman/Byzantine history (which got me interested in Byzantine history, and its amazing) in his "VIDESSOS" books
