What were your favorite reads of 2024?

Impossible for me to pick just one book or even one series as so much depends on my mood. Not all of these were new releases as I regularly read a lot of backlist. But as usual I limited myself to books read for the first time this calendar year.

alphabetically by author, then by release date:
Pursued by Peril by Lindsay Buroker Feb 2024 (Tracking Trouble #4)
Tested by Temptation by Lindsay Buroker Mar 2024 (Tracking Trouble #5)
Scions of Change by Lindsay Buroker Nov 2024 (The Curse and the Crown #4)
People in Glass Houses by Jayne Castle May 2024 (Arcane Society #23)
Cold Case Identity by Nicole Helm Feb 2024 (Hudson Sibling Solutions #2)
Cold Case Scandal by Nicole Helm July 2024 (Hudson Sibling Solutions #4)
The Girl in the Yellow Vest by Loretta Hill Jan 2014 (Barnes Inc #3)
Much Ado About Nada by Uzma Jalaluddin June 2023
The Twelve Days of Snowball by Kristen McKanagh Oct 2021 (Snowball #2)
Sarai's Fortune by Abigail Owen May 2015 (Shadowcat Nation #2)
An Accident Waiting to Dragon * by Abigail Owen Mar 2024 (Brimstone Inc #7)
The Shadows Rule All by Abigail Owen Nov 2024 (Dominions #3)
Brutal Fortress by L Penelope Mar 2024 (The Bliss Wars #3)
Daughter of the Merciful Deep by Leslye Penelope June 2024
The Scenic Route by Katie Ruggle July 2024 (Beneath the Wild Sky #1)
Star Cruise: Captain’s Prequel * by Veronica Scott Oct 2024 (Sectors #18.9)
* indicates novella
Above are my five star reads for the year. Below are some of the ones I rated as B+ I would also consider favorites.

Honorable Mentions:
Snowy Mountains Dawn by Alissa Callen Feb 2024 (Bundilla #4)
As Good As Dead by Karen Chester Dec 2017 (Pelican Bay Mysteries #2)
Last Dance with the Texas Bull Rider by Rebecca Crowley June 2024 (The Stars of Texas #3)
Pawsitively Secretive by Melissa Erin Jackson Dec 2019 (A Witch of Edgehill #3)
A Mythical Case of Arson by Melissa Erin Jackson May 2024 (Mythical Pet Sitting Mystery #1)
A Mythical Case of Murder by Melissa Erin Jackson Nov 2024 (Mythical Pet Sitting Mystery #2)
The Mirror by Nora Roberts Nov 2024 (The Lost Bride Trilogy #2)
Saving the Sheriff by Kadie Scott Jan 2018 (The Hills of Texas #1)
You Can Kill by Rebecca Zanetti Oct 2024 (Laurel Snow #4)

My main reading goal for the year was to finish Abigail Owen’s backlist (including her Kristen McKanagh and Kadie Scott titles). I had 22 titles to go at the start of 2024 plus she added another 3 during the year (not including her newsletter short stories). I also read the entire 14 book backlist for Karen Chester (the cozy mystery penname for Coleen Kwan). My favorite new-to-me author from Mount TBR is Melissa Erin Jackson. I read her entire Witch of Edgehill series and the books published so far in A Mystical Pet Sitting Mystery series. Still debating if I want to try her various Urban Fantasy series. I did a good job of only buying books I planned to read right away. There are only 3 books I bought in 2024 on sale/freebies that I added to Calibre but haven't yet read.

It’s taken me 8 years but I have now caught up on all the big backlist piles for the authors I consider autobuy/favorites where I own every book they’ve published. So my goal in 2025 is to read a few of the trilogies/complete series I own by new-to-me authors. And keep up with the new releases of my remaining autobuy authors.
