KEPUB conversion issue when regular text followed by italics text
I have a strange issue with generated kepub:
The issue may exist with other ebooks as well, but this is the one I noticed the problem.
I have a mobi version of the ebook "Robot Dreams" by Asimov. I am using Calibre to convert it to epub and then sync it to my Kobo Libra Color which, because of the plugin, is converted automatically to kepub.
Here is the problem: if I have word in regular text followed by a word in italics, the two words appear as one concatenated word with no space separating them. If I try to highlight, both words are highlighted as one.
I also tried to convert the ebook directly to kepub in Calibre and when opened with the Calibre e-book viewer, I see the same problem.
However, if I take the epub file (not the kepub) and upload it via Google Drive to the kobo so it isn't converted by the plugin to kepub, or if I open the epub file with the Calibre e-book viewer, all is OK.
I attached two screenshots show how the KEPUB and the EPUB files are displayed in the Calibre e-book viewer.
