Assuming this is a reflowable book (e.g., epub), play around with the Style Tweaks settings, particularly 'Pages and margins' -> 'Page breaks and blank pages' and 'Paragraphs'.
You could also start by disabling Embedded Style (in bottom menu, last tab (gear)) and see if that looks any better.
