I think I'm going to do the factory reset after all. And if the bug still happens after that, I'll complain to the customer service. Not that I think it would help, but maybe they'll do something in future updates.
One thing I haven't tried is to read an epub - I only have kepubs on my Sage. Maybe the bug is specific to the kepub reader. Scant hope, I know, but still...
