The underlying B&W Eink panel is 200-300 DPI (whatever they are quoting). To make a true single color pixel you need to use a clump of 1 red, 2 green, 1 blue pixels, just like an LCD monitor. (Older Kaleido used different sized color filters.) This gives you half the resolultion. But you can still use sneaky color techniques just like LCD to "fudge" a higher resolution. You can make a black vertical line be a bit thicker by adding a red pixel on the left or a blue pixel on the right.
